Hi, I'm Maria Luisa. Thanks for stopping by!

I created this website to let others find me and share ideas about topics I care about such as real estate, class mobility, Latin America, company building, living a meaningful life, and family.

I am new to writing online but I believe in the power of putting ideas out into the world.

Quick facts about me:

  1. I speak 3 languages (Spanish, English, and French) and have worked in 4 continents (North America, South America, Asia, and Europe). Learning the finer details of a particular culture and working in multicultural groups are two of my favorite things.
  2. I am a civil engineer by training (with as Masters in Sustainable Design and Construction) and I went to school in California @ Stanford.
  3. I have been investing in technology startups and funds since 2014. I currently help run a fund-of-funds vehicle with my good friend & partner Anthony Ghosn. Check us out here!
  4. I believe in building responsibly and thinking through the impact our work will have in the world (especially in education, technology, and healthcare).
  5. I was a former management consultant at one of the Big 3. Reach out if you think this might be a good choice for you. I have a lot of opinions and may try to convince you otherwise :)
  6. I am a bit of a coffee snob. But thatĀ“s just because I am Colombian šŸ¤·

This is my dog "Galileo". We love exploring nature and taking hikes together.

Things I am working on:

These days, I am the Chief of Staff for one of the largest real estate developers and contractors in Colombia. This adventure came about after having spent the previous 10 years abroad in Switzerland, San Francisco, and Boston. I decided that I wanted to be closer to my family, surrounded by a culture I love, and working in an industry that I missed. IĀ“d like to keep a foothold in the US but have yet to crack the mystery of being in two places at once, so if you know something about this lets chat!

At work, I have a carte-blanche to choose the projects I work on. These are some of the things I am highly involved with:

  • Setting up & running our online residential sales channel. We went from 620k to 1.3M site visitors in 1 year, increased our online sales by 300%, and reduced our closing time (without any formal training in online products). Check us out here.
  • Developing internal tech tools to help with inventory management, home titling, billing, and project structuring.
  • Exploring investment opportunities outside of Colombia. We are about to start the development of two solar power plants in PanamĆ”!
  • LOTS of recruiting.
  • Preparing our company for the future (lean construction, BIM, employee evaluations, process digitization, etc.)

In a previous life, IĀ was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, an onsite MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing) engineer for a Mormon temple in Paris, and a Kitchen Manager for one of StanfordĀ“s dormitories.

Personal & Interests:

I was previously enrolled in David PerrellĀ“s Write of Passage writing course. This website is part of my goal of becoming a better communicator.

One research project that keeps me up at night is the upskilling of blue collar workers as an instrument for class mobility! I hope this website acts as a collection of thoughts on how to upskill others effectively and understand why our current education system fails to do so.

In my free time, I think about entrepreneurship in Latin America, the future of construction, family values, generational wealth, travel destinations, and angel investing.
